Implementing the Global Governance Initiative
The Global Governance Initiative (GGI) seeks to build a fairer, more inclusive and more effective international system. China introduced the initiative at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, highlighting the need for stronger multilateral cooperation, equality among states and greater representation for developing countries.
Key Tenets of the GGI
The GGI rests on several important principles. Sovereign equality requires every country, regardless of its size or wealth, to have an equal voice in global decision-making. International rule of law calls for countries to apply international laws fairly, consistently and without double standards.
Multilateral cooperation forms another central pillar of the initiative. It encourages dialogue, knowledge sharing and a strong role for the United Nations. A people-centred approach also guides the GGI by seeking fair development benefits and a narrower gap between the Global North and Global South. China-Pakistan Cooperation
Pakistan has supported the GGI through both statements and practical cooperation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the initiative and linked it with the goals of global peace, security and development. China and Pakistan have also worked together on initiatives designed to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
Pakistan's involvement in global AI governance further reflects its support for fair international cooperation. Its participation in the SCO can also strengthen dialogue and collaboration among member states.
