From Ukraine to Taiwan US Triggers Situation to Cap China’s Growth By Prof Shazia A Cheema
A saga covering Why China is so touchy about a routine diplomatic visit? Why such a hue and cry about who can visit whom? The answer lies in “who” and “whom”. “Who” in this particular situation is a US diplomat and “Whom” is Taiwan?
I remember a similar equation back in 2014 when another US diplomat, the then Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Jane Nuland had been visiting Ukraine while a coup d’état was in full swing and I still remember the US diplomat was distributing sandwiches among agitators.
Now one of the similar kinds of US diplomat is in Taiwan without sandwiches maybe a Euro-Median has yet to be orchestrated in Taiwan.
China is apparently neither interested in sandwiches nor a ground full of agitators. It is as simple as it is.
The event has shown us a bloody conflict between Russia and Ukraine proceeding that [in-]famous US diplomatic visit.
The game of bluff between Russia and the US had been called out by Russia and US lost. Russia continuously reprimands the US not to poke the sleeping bear, but the US continues poking and left Ukraine in an apparently never-ending war.
A similar situation is brewing in Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Minister said, “If the US decides to go its, way China will take strong measures and counteract resolutely”.
China considers that visit by Nancy Patricia Pelosi, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives “severely undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, gravely impact the foundation of China-US relations and send a seriously wrong signal to Taiwan’s independent forces” I somehow stuck in figuring out that why the US always choose its own way, without expecting and accepting the consequences it continues to play bluff which it always wobbly.
Even Ukrainians are now realizing that they had been used as pawns and get crushed in a bigger greater game which they must have not fallen into.
The promise of the EU and NATO partnership still seems blurry, and the crisis seems out of control, the only demand of Russia from the West was to abide Budapest Memorandum and respect the idea of a buffer zone between unfriendly countries.
It is thing of the past that US hegemony could have materialized but what I am experiencing now is different, US’s bully tactics of sanctions and invasion-cum-bombardment for the sake of peace and humanity are bygone games.
US economic sanctions on Russia, Belarus, Burma, Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, and Zimbabwe have proved that calling US hegemonic bluff is quite popular.
The US style of manoeuvrability based on “do this or face that” has lost its charm. Taiwan wants independence, however, China wants to stick to its One-China Policy, here comes the US grabbing every opportunity to provoke China into a war, China does not like the idea neither does US President Joe Biden, he answered a journalist’s question by saying, “Well, I think that the military thinks it is not a good idea right now.
But I don’t know what the status of it”, although Miss Pelosi claims to “come in friendship and peace”.
A few warmongers inside the US Establishment set a stage for another bloody conflict, China as consequence has deployed its war machinery inside Taiwan Strait and Taiwan has also started its military drills.
The world is still witnessing war in Ukraine and Taiwan is going to be a future crisis, and all those who are arguing that what’s wrong with a routine diplomatic visit, I have a humble suggestion for them to read the history again or at least recent history starting from Minsk Accord till today’s War Tarnished Ukraine.
The future is written on the wall that if US diplomats will not stop visiting Taiwan, they kept visiting Ukraine war is inevitable in the Indo-Pacific.
Pakistan Foreign Office clearly and categorically discouraged this move and took a firm stance.
Pakistan reaffirms its strong commitment to the “One-China Policy” and firmly supports China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Moreover, Pakistan is deeply concerned over the evolving situation in the Taiwan Strait, which has serious implications for regional peace and stability.
I strongly believe that inter-state relations should be based on mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs and peaceful resolution of issues by upholding of principles of the UN Charter, international law, and bilateral agreements.
The US moves to meddle in Ukraine and now in Taiwan are actually trying to hold China’s economic growth and Russian lost military might but countries like Ukraine and Taiwan should understand that the US does not pay for the mess it leaves in different regions but rather host countries have to pay thereafter.
The US attempts to encircle China and hold its growth include QUAD; the Five Eyes (FVEY); the multilateral UKUSA Agreement; AUKUS and the recently announced Indo-Pacific Framework.
This scribe is sure the US would not stop here and the theatre showing something serious would appear soon.
