India’s Diplomatic Setbacks | Editorial

RISING Hindu extremism in India and its grave human rights violations in occupied Jammu & Kashmir are now an open secret and it is encouraging to see that more people and organizations are abhorring these very acts of the country which never gets tired of blowing the trumpet of being the biggest democracy and secular state but the fact of the matter is it has only turned into a Hindu extremist country especially ever since installation of Modi as the PM.
Despite being what is called a puppet of the US, India suffered two big diplomatic setbacks last week when the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHCR) called for an independent inquiry into abuses in the occupied territory and America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) labelled Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal as militant religious outfits. Given the track record of the two Hindu extremist outfits especially their killing spree of Muslims in India, the US intelligence agency should have tagged them the militant status much earlier but anyhow it is better late than never. Surprisingly, the Indian media is playing up the diplomatic failures of India as a global conspiracy against the country, which in fact has no basis or ground but in fact also exposes the extremist mindset that exists in the Indian media which is not ready to accept the reality and excesses of the country’s own militant outfits. The Indian society and media need to realize that the Hindu militant organizations are taking their country towards a dangerous path that poses danger for the regional peace and stability. Instead of supporting them that will only embolden them, the saner elements in India need to raise their voice against the Hindutva template introduced by Modi in politics. Similarly, turning eyes away from the just demand of Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination will only take the matters to the worse. It is time for the top Indian leadership to review its current course which is taking the country only to fanaticism and intolerance. Besides reining in the militant outfits, it should sit with Pakistani and Kashmiri leadership to find permanent solution of the lingering Kashmir dispute for the sake of peace and stability in the region.
