Pakistan announces 11 public holidays in 2026: Calendar issued

Pakistan’s​‍​‌‍​‍‌ government has released the official list of public and optional holidays, pinpointing major national, cultural, and religious events in the entire country of Pakistan.

The press release from Islamabad states that there will be only 11 public holidays and 23 optional holidays at which federal institutions will be closed. Provincial governments, on the other hand, were given the freedom to print their own holiday calendars.

Now all government offices, private companies, and the general public can benefit from the smooth functioning of their activities, by this announcement which basically lays down the holiday schedule.

Bank Holiday Days Disclosure

The State Bank of Pakistan has given out the schedule for bank holidays when banks will be closed on January 1, February 18, and July 1.

Key National and Public Holidays

  • Kashmir Day: February 5
  • Pakistan Day: March 23
  • Labour Day: May 1
  • Youm-e-Takbir: May 28
  • Independence Day: August 14
  • Iqbal Day: November 9

Government offices will cease operations and the entire nation will participate in the events on these days.



Eid Holidays (Tentative)

Depending on the sighting of the moon, the government will allow the three-day Eid-ul-Fitr holidays on February 21, 22, and 23, and the three-day Eid-ul-Adha holidays will be May 27, 28, and 29. Confirmation of the dates will, however, be made through the official lunar calendar announcements.

Religious Days

  • Ashura (9th & 10th Muharram): June 24 and 25
  • Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH): August 25

This time-honored and religiously crucial practice will be marked by suitable closure and full observance.

Holiday Season Closing

December 25 has been declared a national day off in connection with Christmas and Quaid-e-Azam Day. Subsequently, December 26 will be a special day off for Christians; therefore, the minority employees can also celebrate and enjoy their religious ​‍​‌‍​‍‌festivals.
