The Sindh government has formally approved a new grading system for Matriculation and Intermediate examinations by abolishing the old marks-based system across all educational boards in the province.
According to Sindh Minister for Universities, Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, this step has been taken in line with federal policies and international standards. The objective is to ensure uniformity across all educational boards in the province.
The minister stated that under the new grading system, students’ performance will be evaluated through different grades. The minimum passing marks have been set at 40 percent.
Students scoring 96% to 100% will be awarded A++ grade.
Students scoring 91% to 95% will receive A+ grade.
Students scoring 86% to 90% will be placed in A grade.
Students scoring 81% to 85% will receive B++ grade.
Students scoring 76% to 80% will be awarded B+ grade.
Students scoring 71% to 75% will be placed in B grade.
Students scoring 61% to 70% will receive C+ grade.
Students scoring 51% to 60% will be awarded C grade.
Students scoring 40% to 50% will be considered pass and placed in D grade.
Students scoring below 40% will be declared fail and assigned an “Ungraded” status. Failed students will be given the opportunity to reappear in the same subjects to improve their performance.
He further stated that the purpose of the new system is to assess students’ academic performance more effectively and to align the province’s educational standards with international benchmarks.
Muhammad Ismail Rahoo added that the implementation of the new grading system will be carried out in phases. It will begin with the first annual examinations of Class 9 and Class 11 in the current year. By 2027, the grading system will also be applied to the examinations of Class 10 and Class 12.
The minister also said that after the full implementation of this system, a GPA system will be introduced in the future.
